Fitness Program For Firefighters

Bloomfield, NJ (PRWEB) May 18, 2005 — Rich Meyer, founder of Fastbodies Fitness & Performance will reveal his new fitness program designed specifically for firefighters at the Firehouse Expo national convention in Baltimore, Maryland on July 29th. Rich will be presenting a ninety-minute lecture on essential programs for fitness, fat loss, and function which are the basis for his FAST Responders Functional Fire Fitness program.

Each year the fire service loses approximately 100 firefighters. Last year alone, 107 perished in the line of duty. Of those deaths, almost half were attributed to non-traumatic causes such as heart attacks and strokes. There were 49 firefighters who died directly from heart attacks. “The fitness industry must do more for the fire service. One death from heart attacks or strokes is too much, because some risk factors are controllable.”

Functional training, the basis for Meyer’s program, trains the body as a unit instead of individual muscles and can help a firefighter use his or her body as the best tool on the fire ground. Rich Meyer’s program will help firefighters prepare their bodies for the demands of the job-bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, carrying- and improve health by reducing risk factors associated with heart attacks and strokes.

“With a performance-based approach, you achieve enhanced function as a firefighter plus the health benefits of a regular fitness program,” says Meyer, a volunteer firefighter and rescue technician. “Many fitness programs mimic a bodybuilding program without preparing a firefighter’s body to perform. This prevents a firefighter from being able to perform strenuous tasks and increases the stress on the heart and other organs.”
