FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Belvidere, IL — June 9, 2005 — Midwest Ice Cream Company announced today that it is voluntarily recalling half-gallon rectangle cartons of its Fieldcrest chocolate ice cream because it may contain an undeclared peanut allergen. No other products are involved in this voluntary recall.

Individuals with allergies to peanuts run the risk of a serious or life threatening reaction if they consume this product. Approximately 5,500 cartons of the recalled ice cream were processed at the Midwest Ice Cream Company plant in Belvidere, Illinois and distributed to retailers in portions of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.

How to Identify the Recalled Product

Only half-gallon rectangle containers of Fieldcrest chocolate ice cream containing the following “best by date” and a time code ranging from 2200 to 0050 are involved in the recall. Consumers should look for this information on the side of the carton lid to identify the product:

Midwest Ice Cream Company employees and retailers are removing the product from store shelves. Consumers can return the product to their place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Midwest Ice Cream Company toll free at 1-877-234-0022.
