Fraxel laser treatment (FSL), a revolutionary breakthrough treatment for acne scars, has been developed and refined over the past year by The New York Aesthetic Center’s. Cameron Rokhsar, MD. He recently reported results of his studies to the 25th Annual Meeting of American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS).

This newest generation of noninvasive fractional resurfacing technology represents a rapid treatment alternative to chemical peels and CO2 resurfacing for treating acne scar which so commonly follow acne. Until recently both of the other methods were the most effective known procedures and required at least two weeks recuperation while the raw skin healed. Fraxel laser treatment only requires a topical anesthetic and usually takes about thirty minutes in a doctor’s office.

Dr. Rokhsar reported that 50% of his patients noted major improvement in color, texture and general appearance of their scars while 80% indicated at least moderate improvement. Additionally FTL effectively reduces wrinkles, photodamage caused by repeated sun exposure, and uneven pigmentation such as age spots. According to Dr. Rokhsar’s report to the ASMLMS 73% of these subjects showed marked to significant general appearance improvement with 60% of the patients indicating skin texture as 75-100% improved.
